Happy Holidays, from everyone at Dacotah Performance Horses.

We'd also like to announce the name of our new Curly Colt. His name is Laddie. Congratulations to Tavia, as it was her submission that was voted the winner. We hope she's enjoying her basket of horse goodies.

Also, with the winter season comes fluctuating road conditions. If you want to get an idea for what the roads are like, you can visit Manitoba's Road and Traveler website. We have this link available on links section on the right, as well as on our contact page. We find it's updated quite frequently.

Name that Colt - Christmas Contest

Hello Everyone, we at Dacotah would like to send out a big Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone who has supported us this year! Thank you!

To show our appreciation we are holding a contest. Recently Dacotah has purchased two Bashkir Curly Broodmares and a six month old stud colt. We plan on breeding them for use in lessons and growing a little herd over the next few years. The contest is coming up with a barn name for the colt.

October 26th Lesson

Beautiful fall day today, we were able to take Q and Briggs out to Birds Hill for a short ride through the park. A little spooky at first what with all of the rocks and branches. Our prairie horses aren't used to actual wilderness. They settled down pretty quick and we were able to enjoy a couple hours.

We forgot the camera at the park, but Wade was able to get a few good shots from Sharlene, Quinn and Kadie Mae's lesson this evening. Enjoy.

Headingley Headliner at DPH

About two weeks ago, when Fall first touched down on Winnipeg, Prescott James of the Headingley Headliner paid a visit to the farm with his daughter Sara. We had a great time showing him around the farm while his daughter had one of her first experience with horses. It was fun to watch, the horses were just as curious of her as she was them.

St. Andrews Stable Ride for the Cure

Three Riders from Dacotah Performance Horses along with Porsche, Q, and Briggs participated in the Ride for The Cure October 4th at St. Andrews Stable. We all had a wonderful time despite the rain we had for most of the ride. The horses were fantastic. It sounds like the event raised a decent amount of money. We at Dacotah wanted to send a thanks out to the ladies at St. Andrews Stable for putting on such a great event. We hope to go back next year with more donations and a bigger group!

Hoffman's Horse Minerals

Hoffman’s Horse Minerals started off as just an idea/need when the Hoffman family was looking for a product to improve the health of their horses. We carry it because we stand behind it. At DPH, we use it with all of our horses and ponies. Here’s Hoffman’s Horse Mineral’s bio from their website:

As many people in the horse business know, we were in the breeding and showing business for many years. For many of those years, we searched for horse minerals that really worked, that horses would eat and were affordable for the average horse owner.Several years ago, we were fortunate to find some extremely qualified people to assist us in putting together our own minerals. When we put these minerals together, we didn’t intend to market them commercially; they were just to be fed to horses at our place. As our customers came to pick up their mares, they were pleased with the excellent condition of their horses. New and Exciting

Dacotah Performance Horses has undergone a lot of changes over the past few weeks. Our families came out and helped for about a week with some of our on going projects. Wade and I wanted to send a big thanks out to everyone that made it out and pitched in. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed all the company.

All of the horses have access to grass and are rotated regularly, by the end of the summer we will have 5 pastures 4 semi-private pens. The round corral is finished with good sand. With some help from Wades uncles we now have a shaving and hay shed ready for winter. Sarah's parents came out and helped install all new metal gates and energy efficient lighting in the barn. Wade's parents came out with the Bobcat to help with landscaping around the house and driveway. The farm is taking shape and looking better everyday.

We have also moved a building to a location in front of the arena in preparation for the opening of our feed store. We will be carrying Hoffman's Horse Minerals and Moormans feed line, including Equi-glo, Moor-Glo and Quad-blocks. Hoffman's is a Mineral developed here in Canada by Lorne and Marian Hoffman in Nanton Alberta. Check out their website on the links page to find out more information. Sarah has always used the mineral and had fantastic results. Our 16 year old gelding Dee has had chronic lameness for the past few summers and since being introduced to Hoffman's has been acting like a horse half his age. He is no longer stiff in the mornings and his coat has a sheen to it he never had before.

All of the feed we will carry have been tried and tested by us as well as our friends in the industry with great results, stop in and take a look for yourself, the horses tell the story with their shiny coats and happy dispositions.

We have also brought Airbornne home from Royston Farms. Sarah started her at a Peter Campbell clinic and brought her home after. Since then she has put about 10 rides on her. Airbornne has a fantastic personality and picks things up very quickly. She has been on a few short trail rides around the neighborhood. She is a very sensitive filly, she is already stopping and backing from seat weight alone, has a wonderful walk/trot/lope and is consistently moving her hip and shoulder on command.

English Saddles for Sale

We are downsizing some of our tack as there are too many English saddles. There are about 5 saddles, all 16" seat all purpose English. Priced between $150-250 depending on wear and whether they have leathers and irons. None of them have girths. They are all in good to excellent condition, Some wear on the fenders of a couple, billets and leather is still in good shape. Call for more information or come on by to check them out.

Kitten discovery

On May 5 we found a litter of kittens, four of 'em. Two orange and two grey. They were only a couple days old, they were just starting to open their eyes. Yesterday, a fifth kitten was found on top of hay in the loft. So now we have 3 grey kittens and 2 orange. Sarah has reason to believe there may be more kittens in the hay, but only time will tell.

Enough of that story. Here are the photos.

They're starting to get pretty curious, leaving there little den on occasion. There'll be more photos documenting the mischief they get into.

There's always something going on here, tons of things to witness with all the animals around.
